SPIN to be distributed!

Don spent three months on location in the Tucson, Arizona area as producer of the movie, SPIN, based on his first novel of the same name.

James Redford wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. The film stars Stanley Tucci ("The Terminal", "Maid in Manhattan","Road to Perdition", "America’s Sweethearts"), Dana Delany ("Presidio Med", "China Beach", "Exit to Eden",), Rubén Blades ("Assassination Tango", "All the Pretty Horses", "Cradle Will Rock"), Ryan Merriman ("Veritas: The Quest", "The Deep End of the Ocean","Halloween: Ressurection") and Paula Garces ("Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle", "Clockstoppers", "Dangerous Minds").

"Spin" is receiving critical acclaim. According to a reviewer for the American Film Institute, "A smart, affecting family drama based on the novel by Donald Everett Axinn, SPIN is enriched by a running commentary on anti-Mexican racism in 1950s America, and excellent acting from the entire ensemble." "Powerful…Stanley Tucci delivers one of his best performances…" - San Francisco Herald

"Solidly acted and assuredly directed." – Arizona Daily Star

This bittersweet coming-of-age tale reveals the emotional life of an orphaned boy overcoming the loss of his parents through his passion for flying and his love for a local Mexican-American girl.

The film features earnest and engaging performances from the entire cast: Ryan Merriman and Paula Garces as the teenage couple, Stanley Tucci as the boy's emotionally distant but loving uncle, and Ruben Blades as the uncle’s ranch foreman, and Dana Delany, his schoolteacher wife. They end up raising Tucci’s nephew as their own."

SPIN appeared at several film festivals, including the Mill Valley Film Festival in San Raphael, California (sold out!); the Heartland Film Festival, where it was selected from 400 entries as one of only seven winners of a Crystal Heart award (with a $5,000 prize), and received a surprise award for best sound; the AFI Festival; the Miami International Film Festival; and the Sedona International Film Festival (sold out!)

Don has a small role in the film (as a service station owner), but what really excites him is the amount of flying he got to do in his own Navy Stearman biplane. As in much of his poetry, flying plays a big role in "Spin". And what a perfect vantage point to drink in the magnificent landscape of southern Arizona. "There is an Indian spirituality which is a canopy over the city and surrounding areas. The mountain ranges are islands in high desert country, each with unique characteristics. Beautiful!"

"SPIN" is being distributed in the US by Screen Media Ventures. It's available at Walmart, Best Buy, Blockbuster, and through Amazon and Barnesandnoble.com . It is being distributed in Europe by Curb Entertainment.
