To Touch the Clouds
When you first decided to love me
I rolled my Stearman
biplane through
giddy clouds
into a spring wet with excitement so
surprising it was as if I had only
seen black and white;
before you I never
knew of secret meetings
in the park and launching a dandelion-
festooned boat or someone to show
me how to shut out
the world when it
flaunts its indifference.
But most of all you taught me to fly
to touch the wet lush of clouds to rise
on billowing thermals to heights
I never believed existed.
You have pulled off
my thick skin my old sky of numbness.
